This is what happens when you have ghee mixed with warm water, turmeric, and pepper powder for 30 days
Ghee and warm water on an empty stomach is widely believed to be a wellness drink. But what happens to your body when you combine this combination with a pinch of turmeric and black pepper powder and consume it for 30 days? According to Dr Archana Batra, dietitian and certified diabetes educator, combining ghee with warm water, turmeric, and black pepper creates a traditional wellness drink rooted in Ayurvedic principles.
“Each ingredient offers unique benefits, but together, they form a synergistic blend that supports digestion, immunity, and overall metabolic health. Ghee is rich in healthy fats and short-chain fatty acids that soothe the gut lining, promote nutrient absorption, and support smoother digestion,” said Dr Batra.
When mixed in warm water, Dr Batra said that it acts almost like a lubricant for the digestive tract, helping ease constipation and improving the movement of food through the intestines. “Its nourishing quality also supports the body’s natural detoxification processes by helping carry fat-soluble toxins out of the system,” said Dr Batra.
Turmeric, especially its active compound curcumin, is known for its strong anti-inflammatory and antioxidant properties. “However, curcumin alone is not easily absorbed by the body. This is where black pepper plays a crucial role. Piperine, the active compound in black pepper, can increase curcumin absorption by up to 2000%, making the drink far more potent. In addition, turmeric works particularly well when consumed with healthy fats—like ghee—enhancing its bioavailability even further,” said Dr Batra.
Dr Batra said that together, the drink becomes beneficial for reducing inflammation, supporting joint health, and strengthening immunity. “Many people also sip it in the morning to stimulate metabolism and promote better digestion throughout the day. The combination can help reduce bloating, enhance bowel movements, and calm an irritated stomach,” said Dr Batra.
For those who experience frequent colds or throat irritation, this mixture can offer soothing relief. “The warm water provides comfort, ghee coats the throat, turmeric acts as a natural antimicrobial, and black pepper helps clear congestion,” said Dr Batra.
However, this drink is not suitable for everyone. “People with gallbladder issues, severe acidity, or oily skin may need to consume it cautiously or under professional guidance. Excessive intake of ghee may also cause digestive discomfort in those with a naturally slow metabolism. Additionally, turmeric may interact with certain medications, such as blood thinners,” said Dr Batra.
